Feminism and Other Musings

This is an excerpt from an actual conversation I heard recently.

Person 1: "What's a courtesan?"
Person 2: "I think it's a royal attendant."
Person 3: "I thought you said 'cortisone' and I was like, 'That's one of them things with pepperoni and cheese!'"

Can you imagine the look on person 3's face if she ever goes to the doctor and he says he's going to have to give her a shot of cortisone? Funny.

Anyway, I also heard a chick say, "I hate feminists!" lately. I thought that was kind of funny too. I wonder who she thinks was responsible for women's sufferage. Or birth control. Or her actually being able to have a job and make a somewhat competitive wage. There are definitely some (OK, a lot of) feminist ideals that I don't personally agree with, but the statement, "I hate feminists!" is an awfully broad brush to be painting with. And it might be a little hypocritical too.

The whole conversation is funny.
Tell your friend who hates feminists that she should walk into a paint store and see how many different colors of let's say Blue there are to choose from.

Then tell her that a feminist is blue.

I love it when I overhear great conversations like the one you shared. Things like that just make my day.

You should really post that at http://www.overheardintheoffice.com, that would fit in well over there, lots of hilarious stuff there, so be careful, you'll end up reading for awhile!

Have you ever seen the clip on You Tube where this kid goes around asking a bunch of high school girls to sign a petition "against suffrage for women"? All these girls keep making airhead comments until finally at the end one smart cookie looks at the guy like he's crazy and refuses. Very sad commentary on our youth...

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you about the artificial contraception, however. Natural fertility awareness is just as effective at avoiding pregnancy without any chemicals or side effects.

Hi, Crimson Wife!

You're actually not disagreeing with me at all. :) I'm a huge proponent of NFP/FAM. I just used birth control as an example of a common thing women use that probably wouldn't exist without feminism.

Since I don't go to a church that teaches against birth control, artificial BC is pretty accepted in my circles. Most people I know probably don't even know what NFP/FAM is.
