Warm and Cozy

Yesterday, I went to the Hippie Tree Hugger store again. This time I bought flax seeds and millet and eucalyptus essential oil. Doesn't that sound intriguing?

I'm making hot/cold packs with the flax seeds. Since flax seeds are something like 1/3 oil, they retain their heat really well when they're microwaved. They can also be stored in the freezer and used as cold packs--hooray for versatility!

Anyway, I made one for myself last night out of some fleece monkey fabric and I'm enjoying it even as I speak. There's this stupid rule at work about not bringing heat producing appliances to work...no space heaters, gas log fireplaces, heating pads, etc. I say bah humbug to them! So I brought my little microwavable flax pack to work and now they'll just have to find another way to bring me down. (I'm really sticking it to 'TheMan'.)

Anyway, I'm going to make some sinus packs too and include a touch of the eucalyptus oil in them. Eucalyptus opens up the nasal passages, encourages sinus drainage, and helps with coughs--that combined with the heat from the flax seeds and the weight of the flax seeds should be very comforting.

They should be appearing soon in my Etsy Store.

enjoy!

The only thing i don't like about flax seed hot/cold packs is that when microwaved they *really* smell... strongly. They certainly work well, but the smell turned me off of making my own.

The smell is distinctive. :) It doesn't bother me though...it's kind of an herby smell. And though herby smells aren't my favorite, I still like the smell of flax better than the smell of corn. My mom is a bit of a warmy bag fiend, so I'm used to the flaxy smell, I guess.
