Eclipse and Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

Eclipse is the third installment of the Twilight Saga.

In this book, Bella Swan has some big problems.

1. The powerful and ruthless Italian vampire mafia-like organization wants her dead because they destroy humans who know too much about vampire affairs.

2. A crazy vampire psychopath is stalking Bella and wants to kill her to avenge her mate’s death.

3. Her best friend (the werewolf) and her boyfriend (the vampire) are enemies at the very core of their being.

There are quite a few tense moments in this book and the plot moves along nicely. Much faster paced than New Moon, with a pretty big cliff-hanger at the end.

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

Oh.MY.Gosh.

It has been a long time since I’ve read a book that had this much action in it. I refuse to drop any specific spoilers in this review because I don’t want to ruin any surprises for anyone else.

That being said, this book stressed me out. That’s a good thing because it means I was really sucked into the story. At times, I had to put the book down for a few minutes and go do something else, just so my heart would slow down a little bit. It seemed like I learned new information about the characters or what was going to happen in the book with every page that I read. The story advanced quickly.

And then after all of that, the ending was a big letdown. Why build up all of that tension and resolve it in the way that Meyer did? I realize that after a series like this, the readers want closure in the last book. I feel like I got closure, so that was good. But I think the ending would have had more integrity if Meyer had sacrificed a little of that closure for a more believable ending.

I would be very interested to read a spin-off of this series. I think Meyer left enough room for a couple more series based off these characters.

The post from August 28 (part II) contains a spinoff draft, Midnight Sun. It's Twilight from Edward's perspective. It's only 7 chapters though. :)

I wasn't a big fan of the ending of Breaking Dawn either...and the book was my least favorite.

I'd like a book about her daughter. That'd be nifty.

You should read The Host too...I liked that even better than the Twilight series.

I have The Host on my wish list. I will definitely get around to it eventually.

I really liked Breaking Dawn, but the ending just sucked.

It's a shame that she's saying she's not going to continue with the Midnight Sun project since her drafts of it were illegally distributed, but I bet she'll come around eventually. Money has a way of changing peoples' minds. :)
