13 Ways the Firewall at Work is Ruining my Life (TT #6)

Thirteen Ways the Firewall at Work is Ruining my Life

1. I can't view my Myspace messages.
2. I can't view my Myspace friend requests.
3. I can't upload new pictures to my Myspace.
4. I can't upload pictures ANYWHERE...what do they think I'm gonna do? Take a picture of some sensitive document and share it with the world on my Yahoo Photos?
5. I can't view about 50-99% of the pictures that reside on the internet. It's not like I'm going to look up porn while I'm at work. Even if I WANTED to look at porn, a cube farm is not conducive to "private picture viewing time".
6. When I try to upload a new background for my Myspace page, I can't preview it.
7. Sometimes #6 has led to me having what looks like an otherwise pleasant background with some crappy, idiotic saying in the "extended network" banner because I couldn't read the tiny print in the thumbnail picture I had to go by.
8. I can't check my external mail.
9. Without these diversions, I am being driven crazy.
10. It wasn't a long drive.
11. Big Brother aka my employer is taking away more and more of my freedom every day. I miss being footloose and fancy free. The walls are closing in on me.
12. I think it's causing me to stress eat and drink more Cokes.
13. Stress eating and drinking Cokes makes my gruelling work outs worthless.

Don't stress until you're snorting that Coke, but if you're miserable, no sense in not testing the waters, huh?

Happy TT!

Oh how frustrating all that firewall stuff. I wonder if there is some program you can apply to go around the firewall...almost like a mini laptop concept...now there is an idea for an invention. Like an iPod that used a computer internet but was able to work outside the host computer?

Well great TT list even though you are frustrated with Big Brother and it must make the day drag by...

enjoyed hearing about things anyways

my TT list is short and sweet finally this week...best male rock singers..

We don't have a firewall to thwart me at work, but people keep expecting me to, you know, WORK, when I just wanna slack. Thursdays are the worst, I just wanna click around on other people TT and leave comments.

Happy Thursday.

What? My last comment didn't save, now I gotta do it over! Dang it!

Ok here goes..

I had the same problem with Myspace a while ago and we thought it was my virus software. Wound up switching and it fixed. It was very stressful for me! I can totally relate!

My list is up!!!

I love coke... I drink it even when I'm not stressed! It's too bad your employer is limiting your internet access. Giving employees a few minutes to surf around can be beneficial to their job satisfaction :)

That's really terrible. There's nothing wrong with allowing workers to spend a couple of minutes on the internet as long as their work gets done.

When I used to manage staff I had a problem with a girl who used to live on MSN. I asked the computer people to block her from using it but they weren't able to. She didn't last long anyway - if you need to go to those sort of lengths to prevent someone from taking liberties then it's probably time to give them a good warning anyway.

They don't block us from surfing the net...mostly. But our group has extra restrictions that other groups in our company don't have (such as not being able to upload pictures) due to the sensitive data we handle.

It's just gone overboard.

That would drive me crazy too! It's times like this I'm very happy that I work at home, 10,000 miles (literally) away from my boss.

Happy TT!

I am with you on the MySpace blocking. I hate that I can get an email telling me someone has left a comment or whatever and I have to wait until I get home to see what it says. It's torture!

Thanks for visiting my TT--have a great weekend!
