Cookiessssssss

Merry Christmas!

So I lied. I said I wouldn't do any remote blogging. We're all entitled to change our minds.

I have never seen so many cookies. I have never eaten so many cookies in the span of so few days (and let me tell you, I can *eat* some cookies!)and it seems like the more cookies that come out of the oven, the more cookies I feel obligated to eat. Of course my mother is probably wishing I'd stop eating the cookies so she could stop baking them.

We won't celebrate around here until tomorrow when my sister comes to town.

Today my parents have celebrated off and on by yelling at Kathy. That's too be expected though. Apparently the bathtub doesn't drain correctly because Kathy uses so much soap when she takes a bath and has clogged it up with soapy residue(according to my mother). I felt inclined to point out that it was probably because the little drain lever won't stay in the "drain" position and keep slipping back to "hold the water in" position. I guess it's more fun to have a scape goat.

Mercy isn't eating. This isn't a surprise. I did coax her into eating a little last night by sitting beside her and hand-feeding her. Never a braver dog existed. I hope it stops raining by tomorrow when the whole family comes over so that she can go outside and miss some of the excitement. She really hates people she doesn't know. Especially my nephew.

At church yesterday, an old, extremely white guy sang a rousing rendition of "Sweet Little Jesus Boy". I have always found it offensive to hear white people try to sing "Spirituals". I mean, really. The whole essence of the song is lost in the translation from a song written during a time when white folks were oppressing black folks--who kept the faith and stood strong in their beliefs anyway, to a white guy singing the same song so straight and...white. Especially the part of the song where it says, "The world treat you mean Lord, treat me mean too" (that's my paraphrase) I'm pretty sure the person who wrote the lyrics had a very different idea of what it meant for the world to treat someone mean. There's just something awkward about that.

Enough ranting and raving. Time to eat some more cookies.
