As if You Needed a Reason to go Krogering...

I've previously explained that meat shouldn't be manipulated to form a loaf. I still stand by this statement.

The obvious implication of this statement is that people shouldn't make meatloaf. I remember being little and helping my aunt make meatloaf. I would revel in the feeling of the meat being squished between my little fingers. I liked gross stuff, what can I say? Even as a child, though, I knew better than to eat the stuff.

Perhaps the less obvious implication is that people shouldn't chop up all different parts of all different kinds of animals, mush them up and pack them into a brick, and put that brick of various animals between two slices of bread.

What is 'Mock Chicken Loaf'? Is it any less wrong if it's synthetic chicken instead of real chicken? I say NO! You know what the most disturbing part of that webpage is? It's the "customers who bought this also bought" part. Someone actually purchased mock chicken loaf! Makes perfect sense that the same people who bought the mock chicken loaf also bought sausage and bologna--they obviously don't mind the mixing of the animals.

It's a sick world.

I hesitate to even mention this in the same blog entry as what's above, but this is for my local peeps. Check out www.makeameal.net. The prices are really reasonable and the food is very good. I got a 3 serving size of the twice baked potato casserole for $5.75 and it was way more than 3 servings. More like 5 or 6 servings as a side dish. Ignore all the stuff about them having the ingredients and you coming in and cooking something. The food is already prepared and either refrigerated (see 'What's New') or frozen so you just pick it up and pop it in the oven at home. It doesn't really cost any more than going to the store to buy the ingredients, plus all the prep work is done for you.

The kosher part of me throws up a little every time I see meats like that...

I've never seen pickled chicken feet. I've seen pigs feet though. One year I went to a gag gift Christmas party and one of the gifts was pigs feet.
