More Verbal Atrocities

Yesterday, as I was leaving Wal-Mart, I spotted something disgusting. It was a truck with giant letters across the back window screaming, "GIT-R-DONE". It struck me that someone paid for that. Someone actually went to a "Pimp my ride" type shop and paid someone to put that phrase on their back window.

Here's a newsflash: It's not cool to be a redneck.

There might be someone reading this who hasn't figured that out yet, so take this as a gentle nudge in the direction of non-redneck-edness. I'm not judging. Well, actually I kind of am. But I'm trying to help you. Using the aforementioned phrase essentially denotes Redneck Pride. Bragging about being a redneck can be likened to bragging about dropping out of school in the 6th grade or bragging about not being literate or bragging about being addicted to Meth. Those things aren't cool either (in case you were unsure).

Let me break down the phrase to further clarify my beef with it.

1. Git - Git is actually a noun meaning 'a foolish person'. It's not the same as 'Get'.
2. R - If you've read some of my past blog entries, you'll partially understand why this bothers me. I can only assume that this is short for 'her'. Who is she and why are you getting her done? Was losing the 'he' in 'her' really worth the mental anguish you've caused me?
3. Done - Wow, someone took the time to actually spell out a word--and it's even spelled correctly! I'm surprised that they didn't take it all the way and spell it 'Dun'.
4. What does this phrase even mean? Nobody knows! Perhaps it was originally intended to mean "Get your head out of your butt and go do whatever it is that you're supposed to be doing." These days people just greet eachother with it or yell it at eachother at random times.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, what's up with people still saying "You Go Girl!"? There was a time and a place. That time has passed and that place doesn't exist anymore...unless you're at a 90's-themed party. There's a nearly 50 year old guy who sits on my row that says it all the time. My sister still says it. She has passed it on to her children. If she passes it on to my parents, I will divorce myself from them.

One other issue that I've been meaning to mention...if one can't afford custom rims, maybe it's a sign that they aren't a necessity. It's not a sign that one needs to rush over to Rent-N-Roll to sign up for the rent to own program. I'm not thrilled about my tax money paying for someone's Welfare so they can spend "as low as" $25 a week on custom rims they can't afford.
