Pray for my Sister

Long story short, my sister had surgery to remove a lump from her breast last week. The doctor came out and said everything looked fine, it looked benign, but he was sending it on to pathology and she would hear something back in a couple of weeks.

Yesterday, he called her back and said it wasn't benign and that he wanted to see her and her husband in his office bright and early this morning.

This morning he recommended a double mastectomy.

She's extremely upset (this is all happening so fast and it's not the news any of us expected).

The doctor recommended that she not have the surgery done there (THANK GOODNESS!...DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN TXK.) and she has a friend who had a mastectomy, so she asked her doctor to get in touch with that doctor and set up a consultation.

In the meantime, I don't even know what to do. It's kind of like I'm not even a part of my family sometimes. She's much much closer to my other sister and she's called her to talk to her, but I've gotten my information from my mother. I told my mom I didn't know if I should call her or if she would want to talk to me. I sent her a text message last night just to tell her I was thinking of her. My mom said I might call her later but she's so upset she can't really talk on the phone.

She's going to send a copy of the pathology report to my other sister (who is a nurse) and she's going to have the doctor she works for look at it.

This sucks.

Praying for all of you Jen. Family is such a weird thing to navigate sometimes. Some would assume that moments of crisis make the weirdness dissolve, but sometimes it just makes it worse. Keep us posted. I'll be praying.
Love you,
m

My SIL has stage 4 breast cancer. One thing I've learned from this is: if anyone gets it -- make sure you talk to people who have been thru it... or even an oncologist nurse.

It is best to go in prepared with the right questions and demands.

I'm sorry. I'm sorry for your sister and her family. And I'm sorry that during this time you feel more alienated instead of closer.

You're my sister by choice! :)
