Reading Motivation

I know a lot of people who say that they want to read more, but just don't have time. Or just can't get motivated to sit down and read.

If you fall into that category, allow me to introduce you to the concept of "challenges". You might have noticed the Dystopian Challenge at the bottom of my sidebar. Lisa at Books. Lists. Life. is hosting a challenge specific to books that are utopian or dystopian in nature. I've signed up for that one because I have several books on my shelf that fall into that category and this will help me push them closer to the front of the To Be Read (TBR) line. Just to get specific, the books I'm committing to read are: Animal Farm, 1984, The Handmaid's Tale, and The Stepford Wives (if that one counts, and I think it does). I have until November to read them, so it's not a high pressure situation. Just a little something to keep these books from perishing on my shelf forever.

Other common challenges are Author ABC challenges and Title ABC Challenges where you try to read at least one author whose name starts with each letter of the alphabet in a year's time (or one book title for each letter of the alphabet). The ABC challenges can also help you pick which book to read next if you can't decide between a few books. Here's what my Title ABC challenge would look like (so far this year)if I were participating:

A-Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic by John De Graaf et al.
B-Bless Your Heart, Tramp and Other Southern Endearments by Celia Rivenbark
C-The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel
D-Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris
E-The End by Lemony Snicket
F-Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
G-Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner
H-Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie
I-In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner
J-
K-Knocked Out by my Nunga-Nungas by Louise Rennison
L-Life of Pi by Yann Martel
M-Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan
N-Night of Many Dreams by Gail Tsukiyama
O-
P-
Q-
R-Random Acts of Badness by Danny Bonaduce
S-Separation Anxiety by Karen Brichoux
T-The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
U-
V-
W-

Y-
Z-

Better than I thought it would be. By the way, if any of those books intrigue you or you are curious to know what I thought of them, you can visit my book blog (there's also a link in the sidebar) and find links to my bookcrossing reviews.

That's only the tip of the iceberg. There are challenges to get you motivated to read almost any genre of book!

That's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks.

Hi! Nice little plug for me there, thanks!

I think that if YOU think The Stepford Wives qualifies than it does. I've never seen it, or read the book, so I don't know!

The challenges, they are addictive. I've signed up for way more than I can reasonably do.

You're welcome. I'm pretty sure it counts. I did a search yesterday and found dystopia and The Stepford Wives associated with one another pretty often.

Those are not challenges since I already know that there will be a winner.

The winner will not be me but the books that were not read or even started.

Good luck!!
