I went home at lunch and a guy rang the doorbell. Since I didn't know who it was, I didn't answer it. Plus I was about to leave to go back to work. Anyway, after awhile he came back and stuck a piece of paper in my door. I looked at it and it's a Terminix inspection report. I thought that was odd since I hadn't made an appointment for an inspection and I just had one not long ago.
I looked at the info. on the sheet and saw that the name and address of the house he was supposed to inspect was my same house number, but one block away. So basically, the inspector got mixed up on which house to inspect and didn't realize it.
So I called Terminix on my way back to work so that maybe they could catch the guy and send him to the right house before he left the neighborhood. The first number I called from the sheet they left rang and rang and finally got me Gilbert Baker's (State Rep. or something)answering machine. So I found another number on the sheet. Even though it's a local number, it sends you to some kind of corporate not local place. The guy working the phone was apparently twelve and had no clue what a Termite inspection was, what a Terminix Reinspection service report is, or how to listen while people talk on the phone.
Our conversation went a little like this:
Me: I'm calling because a Terminix inspector inspected my house by mistake. He left a service report for someone else's address.
Him: Oh, are you calling because you're worried that you'll have to pay for the free service?
Me: No, I won't be paying for any free services, I just don't want these people who's house he was supposed to inspect to be charged for it since he didn't go to their house.
Him: What paper did he leave?
Me: It's the sheet they leave when they finish an inspection. It tells you whether or not there's any evidence of termites at your house. It's called a Terminix reinspection service report.
Him: What does it say?
Me: It's the standard sheet they leave every time they do an inspection. It has the customer name and address and tells you whether they found termites or not.
Him: Hmm...can I get your name?
Me: This has nothing to do with me. You need the name/address of the people who's house he was supposed to inspect.
Him: Can I get your name anyway? I need to document it.
So I gave it to him and then told him the info about the other people from the sheet. He still seemed utterly confused but said he would contact my local office and let them know.
So when I got to work, I looked up the people's phone number and called them and told them what had happened so they could be aware and could call and complain if the local office never got in touch with them or really inspected their house.
