Save the Toads!

I have a gripe about Toadsuck festivities. Maybe I'm just sensitive about this because I'm enough of a tomboy that I really love toads and frogs and various amphibians.

So they have a toad race on either Saturday or Sunday, right? The official toad hunting night was Tuesday night. Now I realize that toads aren't exactly an endangered species, but what kind of crazy person thought it would be a good idea for little kids to gather up hundreds of toads on Tuesday and attempt to keep them in a cardboard toad hotel until Sat/Sun? Are you kidding me?!

Completely insane.

How many toads died at the hands of irresponsible kids/parents this weekend? Idiotic. If you must do a toad race, have the official toad hunting night the night before the race.

If I have to hear my co-worker laugh one more time about her 3 year old catching a toad and shaking it in its cardboard box and its subsequent death, I'm going to lose it. "It's OK though, they had more toads there for her to race." That's a good lesson to teach your kid..."It's OK if you don't take care of something and it dies....we won't teach you how to properly take care of an animal, we'll just get you a new one. It's no big deal...just go through your life murdering animals." I wonder if it died from all of the shaking or the lack of food/water for that period of time.

Grr! Yes, that's me growling.
