Today I went to one of my favorite places in Texarkana, Spring Lake Park. I guess I've gotten used to living in a town that doesn't have any decent parks, because it seems so nice there....except when I rehash the scene from The Town that Dreaded Sundown where the mystery killer guy killed people there.
I hadn't been there in awhile. They took the fountain that used to be in the Mall and put it in the lake at the park, so it's kind of serene with the sound of nasty water being shot 10 feet in the air.
Mercy chased some ducks. She just wanted to sniff of them, honest! I released 3 books while I was there and actually got to see one of them being caught. (My first live catch, if you will.) So that was kind of fun. But it was hot, so eventually we had to come home. I rewarded myself with an icee....rewarded myself for what, I don't know.
Mercy's really scared of all of the doors in this house, so when I tried to get her to come inside, she threw a fit and made me drop my cell phone (which had just rung)...breaking the battery door off and sending the battery to the concrete. But I put it back together and it seems to work...just a few cuts and scratches.
Do goldfish eat crackers? At one point there were goldfish in this little pond in my mom and dad's courtyard, so yesterday I went and threw cracker chunks in it to see if they would come to the top and eat them. Either goldfish don't eat crackers, or weren't hungry, or the goldfish died a long time ago and I was standing out there looking like an idiot for no reason.
Last night Kathy and I went shopping and went out to eat. She had been hinting around at wanting to go to Fred's the whole time I've been here, so I finally took her. We didn't find anything, but we did walk down to the store next door and she found a gaudy brooch for .25 that she fell in love with. She went up to the counter and paid for it and was so proud of herself. When we drove up to the restaurant she said, "You want me to pay?" It was so sweet. She did really good at dinner too...she used her best dinner table manners and said thank you to the waiter. I think going to Opportunities really suits her. They teach folks how to interact politely in society and become more independent. She actually does really well besides taking a lot of time to do everything, but that comes with the territory. She wanted me to wait until she gets in this evening to wash clothes because she wants to show me that she learned how to use the washing machine.
I guess that's all I know for now...
