I have been itching like crazy for several weeks now. At first I thought maybe the dogs had fleas, but I gave them both baths and didn't find any. So I tried Benadryl cream and stuff like that hoping that it would clear up on its own. Well it didn't, and now I have all of these patches of itchy skin all over me, especially on my neck behind my ears.
I started developing this irrational fear that I somehow had gotten scabies. I logically couldn't figure out how it could be possible or how I would have gotten them, but I was still afraid that there were tiny mites living under my skin.
So yesterday I went to the doctor and he said he just thinks my skin is sensitive. Whew! He prescribed some cream to stop the itching (it's supposed to take up to 3 weeks to work though!) and warned me that the cream can't be used on areas where skin touches skin (like under an arm, for example) because it will thin the skin and cause a stretch mark. I told him another stretch mark was just what I needed! He also said I have to sleep with oven mitts on so that I don't scratch myself in my sleep....oh yeah, I'm hot stuff. I just slept with gloves last night though because I figured oven mitts would be more annoying to sleep in than gloves.
My wait in the dr.'s office yesterday did give me a chance to read a little of The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy. I had been struggling through the lengthy introduction and got a little bogged down in it, but I was able to get through the introduction and a few chapters into the story yesterday. I really like it! I'm surprised. I decided to try to read a few "Classics" this year just so I can be more cultured, so this book is part of that effort.
It's a pretty funny book in a morbid kind of way. I'm looking forward to finishing it.
